Our Hoa binh Off-Road Adventure with learn enduro vietnam
If you’ve ever hit a steep hill and felt like you were about to whiskey-throttle yourself into the woods, you’re not alone. In this ride report, we’ll take you behind the scenes of our latest Hoa binh dirt bike tour — where a few tips on hill climbs quickly turned into one of the toughest (and most rewarding) off-road adventures we’ve done in Northern Vietnam.
Mastering the Hill Climb
Before taking on the trails, we ran through a few key techniques for climbing hills.
Tip #1: Position your upper body forward.
Leaning forward before the climb keeps the bike balanced and prevents that scary feeling of hanging off the back.
Tip #2: Squeeze with your legs.
This gives you control and stability, especially when traction gets loose.
Without these two points dialed in, riders often end up whiskey throttling — shooting off balance and wheeling into the trees. Once everyone had a feel for the technique, we hit the trails.
From Flowing Trails to Typhoon Chaos
We’d scouted these trails two weeks earlier. They were smooth, flowy, and perfect for a mix of beginner and intermediate riders. But after a typhoon swept through, everything changed.
The once-gentle paths were now filled with landslides, fallen trees, and deep ruts. What was supposed to be a fun warm-up became a full-blown off-road challenge — and our riders handled it like champs.
There was even a section with a steep drop-off on the right. I reminded everyone, “If you’re going to crash, crash left!” Better a muddy fall than a flight down the hill.
Teamwork on the Trail
When obstacles got serious, teamwork became key. Riders helped each other lift bikes over logs, balance through rocky climbs, and pick lines safely.
Daniel’s new WR didn’t escape the action — he had a little crash (just after I turned the camera off, of course).
Marcel made it three-quarters of the way up before turning around, while Pete pushed through to the top.
Even those new to standing up on the pegs — like Zi, who normally rides a CB500 — made huge progress once they adopted the attack position. It’s always awesome to watch new riders find confidence off-road.
Double Enduro Rescue Mission
The typhoon left a few sections completely washed out, and at one point Julia bashed her leg halfway up the hill. That meant one thing: double enduro.
We rode two-up through the rocks to retrieve her bike — sketchy, technical, and a ton of fun.
“Ben’s going to pop my cherry for double enduro,” someone joked as we powered our way up the trail.
It was rougher than it looks on video, but that’s part of the thrill of Vietnam’s backcountry riding.
Riding, Recovery, and a View Worth the Effort
After making it to the top, we decided not to risk the steep descent in those post-typhoon conditions. Instead, we turned around, played on some safer sections, and made our way back down the mountain.
We wrapped up the day at our cozy homestay overlooking the valleys of Ha Giang — a perfect spot to recover, swap stories, and take in the view.
The next morning, after some water stops and friendly attempts at speaking Vietnamese, we took the group to a scenic viewpoint before tackling a small river crossing and loading the bikes onto a local boat.
The boat owners couldn’t stop laughing as we rode on and off without their wooden ramp — they even filmed us!
Meet the Riders
We had riders of all skill levels on this tour — from complete beginners to experienced adventure travelers.
Jimmy summed it up best:
“It’s been absolutely amazing — spectacular views, wild trails, friendly locals. We’ve been at the top, the middle, the bottom… through forests, rivers, even helped an old lady with bamboo! I honestly recommend this trip. Go for it.”
That’s exactly the experience we aim to create: real off-road adventure with a supportive crew, beautiful terrain, and professional guidance.
The Final Ride Back to Hanoi
After some mud baths, a few laughs, and a lot of learning, we made our way back by road to Hanoi. Another unforgettable Dirt Bike Academy tour complete — with plenty of stories (and battle scars) to prove it.
