Budds Creek National 2025 Recap: Lawrence Brothers Close Out Motocross Season in Style

The final round of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek delivered everything fans could hope for — championship celebrations, big wins, and plenty of momentum heading into the SMX playoffs.

Both the 450 class and 250 class wrapped up with dominant performances from the sport’s brightest stars, while several riders made history in the record books.

450 Class: Jett Lawrence Seals the Title with Another Win

Jett Lawrence finished his championship season in fitting fashion — by claiming another overall victory. With 1-2 moto scores, Jett notched his 24th career 450 win.

It wasn’t just the motos where he shined. Jett also earned pole position in qualifying, the 22nd of his career, tying him with Ken Roczen for second all-time.

Hunter Lawrence Ends on a High Note

Jett’s older brother, Hunter Lawrence, closed out the year with a moto win and second overall. This marked his 17th career 450 podium, putting him even with his trainer and motocross legend Johnny O’Mara.

Justin Cooper Holds the Advantage Heading into SMX

Justin Cooper rounded out the Budds Creek podium with third overall, and he carries a major advantage into the SMX 450 playoffs as the points leader.

Cooper’s speed has been undeniable this year — he was the only rider other than Jett Lawrence to earn a pole position in qualifying, taking three throughout the season.

250 Class: Deegan Doubles Up on Championships

In the 250 class, Haiden Deegan put an exclamation point on his season by clinching his second 250 motocross title. On the track he went 1-1, but after a penalty his official scores were 2-1.

At just 19 years old, Deegan joins an elite list as the sixth rider to win two titles before age 20. The company he keeps? Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Broc Glover, Ryan Villopoto, and Jett Lawrence — all of whom went on to claim 450 championships.

Jo Shimoda Stays Consistent

Jo Shimoda capped off his best professional season yet with 3-2 scores (after a penalty adjustment). His 41.27 average points per round is a career-best, and with Deegan moving up to the 450 class, Shimoda may be the favorite for the 2026 250 championship.

Levi Kitchen Back on the Podium

Levi Kitchen also ended the season strong, returning to the podium with 4-3 moto scores. After a slower year, the Budds Creek performance was a confidence boost heading into next season.

What’s Next: SMX Playoffs

Budds Creek wrapped up the motocross season, but the action isn’t over. The SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) is up next, blending motocross and supercross into a unique playoff-style showdown.

The big question: Can anyone challenge Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan when the tracks change and the stakes get even higher?

Stay tuned — the 2025 season may be over, but the SMX battles are just beginning.
